1. How long have you been doing Video at Events & Weddings?
25 years and counting! I turned 40 this year and started filming weddings professionally at age 15. I was the consummate "video geek" in High School and was asked by a graduating Senior to film her wedding for $25. I loved it, started the biz, and never looked back. Of course, my rates haven't changed in 25 years, making us a great investment...

2. Why did you decide to start this biz?
I have always had a passion for film-making, cinematography, and story-telling. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to make movies, and become the next Steven Spielberg. So, I attended a special cinematography summer-school at U.S.C., arguedly the best film school in the country, and got specially-trained for storytelling with a video cam some 20 years ago. I decided instead of 18 hour-a-day workdays on film sets that I loved the feel and the raw emotion of a wedding "flim-set" better, so I went full-time with my Princess Bride Sarah and a great staff of Cinematographers some 15 years ago. We are the longest-running wedding video company in AZ!

3. What is your favorite part of doing what you do?
My favorite part is capturing the emotion of a wedding day; the first meeting together of the bride and groom, hearing what they feel for each other just before the Ceremony, the beauty of the Vows and Rings, the amazing stories of the Toasts, and the emotion of the first dance. Every wedding day is unique and when I sit down to edit, I love creating a fresh Masterpiece on the canvas of original footage.

4. What is the funniest thing that has happened to you while doing your job?
Funniest moment: last year during the dinner, the glasses were being "clinked" and instead of the B and G kissing, the parents of the Bride were asked to kiss in front of 300 guests instead. I was rolling video in perfect position, and the Father of the Bride went to dip-kiss his wife and DROPPED her, with a thud, on the floor! They both landed spread-eagle on the ground and the whole room GASPED, then of course applauded when the embarrassed parents got up and kissed again!

5. How long have you been married & how did you meet?
Married 14 years this March. We met in Church. I was on my way in to visit Sarah's church, and I was praying a prayer to God on my way in the door. I said, "LORD, this is the kind of place I could meet myself a woman. Come on!" Well, the LORD answered that prayer about 8 seconds later, as when I walked in the front door, Sarah was the greeter and shook my hand! We ended up going out for a bite to eat after the service, and the rest is history...
We met (and married) 7 months to-the-day from the day we met!

6. Do you have any Fantastic Tips for people who are considering Videography at their event?
Fantastic Tips: hire a professional! don't let "Uncle Ned" video your wedding. Also, hire a pro who films and out-puts in HD on a stunning blu-ray disc! Good cinematographers understand so many technical and creative elements in wedding shooting, with experience as the best teacher, than any "uncle" or "friend" can offer. We understand good sound (wireless mic always placed on the groom for awesome vows and rings' sound) appropriate lighting technique, shot composition, candid style, being everywhere and nowhere at the same time, and now delivering a finished Movie in stunning High Def quality on a Blu-ray disc to enjoy for a lifetime.

7. What are your own personal hobbies/pastimes?
I love fishing, reading, movies (I watch movies from a cinematographer's perspective and they are all "training" for learning new techniques!), and hangin' out playing games with my wife and 3 young children. One thing that most people in the wedding industry don't know about me, is that I am also an ordained minister! I don't "marry people" but I do travel the world in missions and share the gospel to various folk. Last year alone I travelled to London, Belfast, Sydney and Melbourne on various trips, in-between filming about 62 weddings in both Minnesota (the summer) and Arizona (the winter)!!!

8. If you could do your job anywhere in the world, where would you be?
We love doing our job and fulfilling our dream of living in Minnesota for the gorgeous summers, and Arizona for the warm winters! We live a dual life by having homes in both States and shifting between them as the weddings are booked. The northwoods and lakes for most of the year and the desert for the other part. I am a 40 year-old Snowbird!

Unity ceremonies have been a special part of wedding vows since time immemorial. Couples from cultures around the world have used the unity ceremony as a powerful way to symbolize their love and commitment to one another in marriage.

But, until recently it’s always been the Unity Candle Ceremony that has received the majority of the spotlight. I actually wanted to be a nature and landscape photographer. I love traveling and I love the beauty in this world, so I thought I would combine the two. That’s when I decided to go school to learn the technical side of photography. While I was in school, I started second shooting for a wedding photographer and fell in love!

~What is your favorite part of doing what you do?
Meeting new people and I get to watch people’s dreams come true!

~What is the funniest thing that has happened to you while doing your job?
I had the whole bridal party in the grass taking pictures and the sprinklers came on. I’ve never seen people move so fast before, including myself!!

Make sure you like both the photographer’s style and their personality. If you’re not comfortable with your photographer, it will show in your photos.

Bad bad weather in Ecuador and Cuba

Ok… So I have news to share.
I am hearing that there was very bad weather in Ecuador and Cuba this past summer. It rained and was cloudy for the entire 4 months of their Grow season. This means for us florists and yes my very special brides that the roses are going to be less than perfect! “They” are saying that even filling big rose orders will be tricky and that we have to have a second choice on all varieties… don’t worry we will get as close to the color as possible it just may not be the exact name or variety originally quoted. I know this really stinks but rest assured that both we and our growers are doing everything we can to fill each and every order. On a good note the rest of the flower industry is fine so we will still have fab flowers from everywhere else!
I will keep everyone in the loop as it comes to me.

OK Girls...Let’s talk Make-up!

I understand that we are in really tough economic times… BUT… you spend thousands of dollars planning your wedding and a huge chunk of that is on Photography, right? So how in the wide wide world of sports could you consider not having you and your Bridesmaids hair & make-up done?

This is one of those things that I say "Is not expensive… It’s PRICELESS”!

These are pictures that you will have for a lifetime and you want them to be fabulous! YOU want to look fabulous in them! Please trust me when I tell you that your everyday make-up IS NOT THE SAME!!!! We do not have the skill or the product to do the kind of job that a Professional Make-up artist has. They use special foundations and effects to make you look your absolute best!! There is something about the way a make-up artist does eyes and foundation that is irreplaceable! AND don’t even get me started on how incredible The EYELASHES are! OMG…. Every girl needs lashes, lol.

It is also a really great way to spend the time before your big entrance! I mean really girls, what could be better than being pampered in your room? Our artists come to you, no driving around from the hair salon and then to the mall make-up counter! If you don’t trust my 25 years worth of seeing the difference in Professional artistry and the girls who do their own… do a trial and see the difference! To Toss or Not to Toss

So... one of the really fun parts of your wedding is the bouquet/garter toss.. or is it?

Recently I was at a wedding where the bride very happily ran out on the dance floor to toss her bouquet and Lo and Behold... no-one joined her!!! She stood there looking at everyone thinking "OMG... this is awkward"....

Here's what I think: if you are a bride in her 20's who has lots of single girl friends who will go "running" to the dance floor to kill each other for the bouquet... toss it! However, if you are a bride who is a bit older (like me) with lots of married girlfriends not so willing to kill each other for the chance of the superstitious marriage bouquet (LOL) ...don't toss it!

It was so bad for me (married at 35) that my girlfriends used to say... ON THE MICROPHONE..." Hey Jacque I know you're here! Come out and catch the bouquet!" Oh ya,... can't wait to stand up there in front of 125 people alone! NOT!

So my advice? Consider your guest list, and if you don't have a ton of singles, research some other options. Talk to your DJ or your planner; they can help you to come up with some great alternatives, like the Anniversary Dance, where you give the couple who has been married the longest your toss bouquet and garter! It's really sweet and romantic and no-one looks like the fool.

The toss isn't something anyone will miss if you replace it with something wonderful. And trust me, your single girlfriends will love you for it! LOLOLOL

When you chose your brides maids dresses did you think about the flowers you would choose to accompany them first… or at all?

As brides and “girls” we spend hours looking for the right dress for our attendants.

Which one looks the best on my kind of chunky, brunette MOH and will still look good on my teeny tiny blonde sister!?! But can you see deep Orangey yellows on there??? Or how about deep sage greens and cranberry reds with a touch of orange??? For spring what about rich orange, corally oranges and purples? There are so many fun options to choose from.

On chocolate brown… how about deep reds and burgundy’s? Or all shades of green?? MMM, I can just see it now…LOL

Coming in to see me will be one of the most fun parts of planning your wedding. I get to open your mind to possibilities and color schemes you may never have thought of! Sandy and Jose wanted all of their friends and family that were already traveling to celebrate his degree completion to be able to come to the wedding. Even though I've photographed and been a part of dozens and dozens of weddings, being the bride gave me a different perspective on wedding photography.

My tips:
1) It's very important to have a timeline for not only yourself but also all the other people involved (especially if you have a large family and/or bridal party). You want to avoid getting a ton of calls from your family and friends on your wedding day.

2) Use timelines as a guideline and don't be upset if you run a little behind. Unexpected things will happen and may cause your timing to be a bit off. Make sure to pad your timeline with extra time to ensure you have the ability to take the photos you'd like.

3) Enjoy the day and especially the photography session. This is the first thing you will do with your husband. Relax and just have fun with the photographer. It will show in the photos.

4) Choose a photographer not solely based on their work, but also their personality. You have to genuinely like the person to be able to invite them into very intimate moments between you and your new husband. It will be clear in the photos if you are faking your emotions or are holding back your true feelings.

Posing:

Turning your body at an angle and shifting your weight to your back foot while pointing your other foot forward can instantly help you lose 10-20 pounds through the camera.

Stick out your chin a little to avoid the appearance of a double chin in your photos.

Don't hold your breath during a pose. Stay relaxed and your photos will look as if you just happened to be sitting this way when the photographer walked up.

You don't always have to smile. You should have a good variety of smiling, laughing and serious looks.

Tips for looking good in your wedding photos:

Do a trial run with your hair stylist and make-up artist before the wedding. Having them do your make-up before the wedding gives you a chance to see if you enjoy working with them and makes sure there are not any unpleasant surprises. If possible, you should think about scheduling your engagement session on the same day as the trial. This will give you the opportunity to see how your make-up and hair will look in photos.

Remember to eat and stay hydrated! The better you feel, the better you will look in your photos.

Wear comfortable shoes. Make sure you wear your wedding day shoes around the house to break them in. Some brides bring a second pair of shoes to the reception so that they can change their shoes after the grand entrance, which I think is a great idea!

If you are having an evening wedding, consider taking your pictures before the ceremony to take advantage of the beautiful natural light outdoors.

Lighting is very important for photographs. If you are thinking about having an indoor ceremony or backyard wedding, make sure there is enough ambient light. Set up a meeting with your photographer and show them what the lighting is like. They should be able to tell you if more light is needed or not.

Be relaxed, smile and enjoy your day! Laugh and let loose in front of the camera, just be yourself and show off the wonderful love you have each other. The happiness and affection will show through in the photos that you’ll treasure for a lifetime!

Summer School for Brides

Summer School for Brides was a huge success -a huge thank you to all the brides and their families that attended. Another huge thank you to all the professional wedding vendors that participated in the event that made it great. Curtis Whipple (DJ) was the first to speak and gave all the brides information on what to consider when hiring a DJ. I think one of the best questions was “Ask if the DJ has liability insurance?” This separates a “hobbyist” DJ from a professional.

We had a very very happy bride that won the 9:45AM raffle for the $2,500 Wedding Fairy Package that included full service planning and “day-of-coordinating”. She ran outside as soon as she won to call her mom. Next to speak was Olivia Womack of Blue I Concepts Photography on “Key points on selecting the right photographer”. Remember you are going to be with your photographer all day and finding the perfect one to meet not only your budget but your personality is important.

I spoke next on “Budget Saving Tips”. Cutting the guest list is the first place and the largest place to trim the budget. Sitting down and writing a list before selecting a venue is the best advice I can give. Cyndi Hardy of Cyndi Hardy Photography spoke on “Posture and body positioning technique for the perfect wedding photograph”, which I will post on the blog tomorrow so everyone can read.

Ginny Solis of All About Catering, Co. announced they will be having a grand opening at their new building later this month. She spoke on “Tips on hiring the right caterer, questions you never thought to ask”. If you are still looking for a caterer for your event she will be having a tasting at her new location at the end of the month.

Jacque Dearing Co-owner and Designer of Thee Wedding Warehouse, home of EnDearing Floral Design spoke of details and DYI tips. She fielded questions on color combinations and linen ideas.

Mike Cimino of Event Centrale - DJ’s did a slide show presentation on “Take your reception to the next level and leave your guests talking about it for a long time”. Tips included a custom recorded song, up-lighting, go-bo, fabric draping, and entry for the grand entrance. Christine Valenzuela of KISS THE CAMERA was the next to speak on “Photography from a recent bride’s point of view”. Being a recent bride herself gave her insight that she shared with other brides.

Last event of the day of Cake Decorating by The Cake Contessa. We had a full house of brides that wanted to learn how to be the “cake boss”. Most of them brought a few friends and showed off their decorating stills. Lanette taught them not only how to cut and roll fondant but how to make flowers and decorate their own personalized cake that they got to take home. Everyone enjoyed this hands on experience. Lanette does at home classes that can be customized to any event (Birthday – Bridal Shower).

Heather Peterson owner of Pure Radiance did mini make up trails on brides all day. Hair style books were available to help choose the prefect bridal up do. The splurge which I don’t consider a splurge is having a make-up artist come to the bride on the day of the wedding to do hair and make-up. This way it eliminates the running around trying to get ready, traveling from place to place.

Appetizers were served by All About Catering, Co. Cakes samples were served by The Cake Contessa and Custom Cakes by Elizabeth.

Last but not least… Chris Smith owner of A2Z Photobooths was here letting everyone get their picture taken in the booth. A souvenir of Summer School for brides. The guests love this and it is a perfect favor.

The dramatic moment of proposal is one that has been depicted countless times: the man on one knee, perhaps, with a velvet ring box in his hand and a shocked, happy look on the face of his fiance. But although the actual act of proposal is one that everyone probably knows all about, the process of actually choosing a wedding ring is surprisingly obscure.

That's too bad, because there are a good number of things that you should educate yourself about before buying promise rings or engagement rings. It isn't, or at least shouldn't be, as simple as just walking into a store and picking out a shiny ring. That's a good way to wind up paying too much for an average ring; better to do some research on your own so that you can be educated to make the best possible choice.

There are a few things to consider before buying a ring, chief among them budget. Diamonds can cost a lot or a little, enough to strain any budget. If your budget is small, it may be wise to consider alternative stones, such as sapphires. Gemstones may be a good choice because they are generally less expensive than diamonds and also come in a wide array of colors. On the other hand, many women expect a diamond in their wedding ring, as that is the traditional stone. Another good reason to educate yourself about rings is so that you can recognize a good deal from a rip-off. It's best to compare prices at several stores, and possibly look into buying rings from online stores. A number of reputable online stores now sell wedding rings, and often at a reduced price from jewelry stores. If you first take a quick walk into a store to find rings that you like, you can go online later and compare prices. Buying online does have certain issues, such as difficulty returning items and the problem of choosing the right sizing.

If you just do a little research before buying, you can save yourself a lot of headaches further down the line. A wedding ring represents a significant investment (in addition to representing the strength of a marriage), so it just makes sense to get the best deal possible. In addition to saving yourself money, you can also ensure that you get the best ring possible by shopping around and taking a good look at the options.

Cake Decorating Workshop

The Cake Contessa and Thee Wedding Warehouse had our first EVER BRIDES cake decorating workshop. The brides to be that attended this event learned to frost and fill there very own 6 inch cakes. Later they covered each one in fondant, learning that its not quite as easy as it looks on tv. We made flowers such as calla lily’s, daisies, and roses all from fondant. Piping, scrolling and borders were all done in buttercream. For the finally a damask stencil! The ladies were quite excited about learning to stencil.
Each person got to take home there own spatula, fondant mat, and froster tip along with there cake.
Cake flavors were red velvet, chocolate, and vanilla bean.
The Cake Contessa and Thee Wedding Warehouse are very excited about the cake decorating workshops, our next one will be held on July 17th, and reservations are required, we will also have many other things going on at Thee Wedding Warehouse that day so mark your calander!! And give us a call!

Language of Flowers

The language of flowers, sometimes called floriography, was a Victorian-era means of communication in which various flowers and floral arrangements were used to send coded messages, allowing individuals to express feelings which otherwise could not be spoken. This language was most commonly communicated through Tussie-Mussies, an art which has a following today.

The nuances of the language are now mostly forgotten, but red roses still imply passionate, romantic love and pink roses a lesser affection; white roses suggest virtue and chastity and yellow roses still stand for friendship or devotion. Also commonly known meanings are sunflowers, which can indicate either haughtiness or respect - they were the favorite flower of St. Julie Billiart for this reason. Gerbera (daisy) means innocence or purity. The iris, being named for the messenger of the gods in Greek mythology, still represents the sending of a message. A pansy signifies thought, a daffodil regard, and a strand of ivy; fidelity.

History

Though most popular in the Victorian period, the symbolic use of flowers dates back to antiquity. In medieval and Renaissance culture, flowers were often given moral meanings. This is most apparent in art in which saints are often depicted with flowers that are symbolic of their virtues. Liana DeGirolami Cheney notes that "some of the Christian symbols for Virginity or Chastity are the white rose, the myrtle, a vessel or vase, the lily, and the unicorn". Victorian sources also used flowers to describe moral, spiritual, or emotional truths.

Rose

More than any other flower, the rose has been prized for its beauty the world over. Symbolic associations with the rose have existed since the days of the ancient Romans and Greeks. Roses have been identified with love and passion since those times, beginning with their association with the goddesses Aphrodite, Isis and Venus. Cleopatra is said to have received Marc Anthony in a room literally knee-deep in roses.

The flower symbolism associated with roses is love, remembrance, passion (red); purity (white); happiness (pink); infidelity (yellow); unconscious beauty, and I love you. Wild roses have five petals. This has led to their symbolic connection to the wounds of Christ in Christian iconography. The rose also symbolizes the Virgin Mary herself, who was known as the "Mystic Rose.

The History of Roses
There are fossil records dating roses back some 35 million years. Roses are native to the United States. Montana and Oregon have the oldest rose fossils. The rose has the most complex family tree of any known flower species with over 30,000 varieties.
Roses were first cultivated 5,000 years ago in Asian gardens. In the Orient, ladies carried rose petals in their purses and gentlemen made wine and herbal medicine with the flowers. Along with the name Orchid, Rose is one of the most popular names for girls in China. Confucius wrote that the emperor of China owned over 600 books on the cultivation of roses.

Roses were introduced to Europe during the Roman Empire and were thereafter used for ornamental purposes. Romans were known to carpet huge banquet halls with rose petals.
Experts divide roses into two groups. "Old roses" are those cultivated in Europe before 1800. "Modern roses" have been cultivated since about the turn of the 19th century.
Before cultivation, roses typically bloomed only once per year. Now roses are blooming somewhere every day of the year.

Mandy and Mike's wedding... this was a day that dreams are made of! You wouldn't have known it was a chilly December day in Arizona, because the Beautiful Bright Spring Colors gave the feeling of Spring! Mandy was the epitome of a beautiful, sweet fairy bride and , she even got hand warmers for all of her bridesmaids. The Intimate Outdoor Ceremony on the Kokopelli Terrace at Wigwam Resort transformed into a sea of Bright Orange and Pink with the accents of Gerber Daisies and Oranges chosen by Mandy and arranged by Jacque & her team, at Thee Wedding Warehouse, home of Endearing Floral Design. Her reception was in the Mohave Ball Room one of the Wigwams newest additions and it spark with energy as the DJ, Kevin with Fanning Flames Entertainment kept things flowing and people dancing the night away. Memories by Karen was able to capture all the days special moments and Kathy & Melanie “Thee Wedding Fairy” was the on-site coordinator there to keep every detail as imagined by Mandy and Mike and be sure all vendors chosen for their dream wedding day worked together seamlessly; proof that a moderate budget can still produce a perfect wedding! Most people only think of the value of a good DJ in terms of the dancing portion of an event. At most weddings or other social occasions, dancing may not happen until 3 hours into the event, but the DJ will have already provided a great deal of value to the event up until that point. Background music is one of those things that nobody is really listening to, but they'd sure miss it if it wasn't there.
As a society, we have become pretty casual. Nothing wrong with that, but weddings are one of the few things left that are still rather formal. Women wear nice dresses to weddings. Even the most casual of men wear a jacket and button down shirt. A wedding gives everyone a reason to consider their own relationships and there is always a bit of anticipation in the air.
During a sales presentation, I'll ask brides about the moments leading up to the ceremony. I explain that attendees are dressed up and there is excitement about seeing friends and cousins they haven't seen in a while and even old married couples are flirting with each other a bit because they have a special occasion for which to get dressed up. I'll ask brides, "What kind of music do you hear as your guests are arriving before the ceremony?" Owing to the formal nature of the occasion, classical music SPEAKS the moment. Even for people who don't know classical music very well, it feels familiar to them. It adds body and life and it compliments those feelings of anticipation.
People, individually, are pretty smart, but crowds, collectively, have a separate mentality and they need to be told what to do. I like to have the music provide the instructions so that the DJ or wedding minister doesn't need to speak any instructions. If the background music has been strings, I like to switch to a piano song and turn it up 15% to signal the start of the formalities. If it has been piano music, I like to switch to classical guitar and turn it up 15%. People know that something is different and they quiet down and sit up straight in their seats and turn their attention to the entrance of the bridal party without being told specifically to do so. The oft-overlooked background music has spoken it.
A mistake that many DJs make is #1) being too loud in general and #2) not taking advantage of the natural energy of the crowd and the occasion and then, not using good musical selections to enhance that energy. There will always be several animated and electric conversations going on and those conversations add to the energy of the space and that is a good thing! When a spoken announcement cuts into that, it can be jarring as people have to disconnect from their conversations to hear what is being said and then they will be more disruptive to the announced instruction as they now attempt to finish what was being said ANYWAYS! However, if the music speaks it, it can be far more profound and effective at quieting those conversations more naturally and having attendees direct their attention to the matter at hand- like the officiant and groom having taken their places in advance of the ceremony.
I like to keep the music about 5% below whatever the current level of conversation is in the space. I understand that a few voices rise specifically in response to the level of background music but please don't bust my chops over that issue. I've been around the block enough times to know how to gauge the level of music. I contend that more people raise their voices because they are excited and they feel comfortable being animated and gesturing largely with their hands and speaking excitedly. They want to be heard and they want to speak freely, but they would be embarrassed being heard above anybody else. The music needs to be there to mask each voice so that no single voice ever rises above the overall volume and people can feel comfortable being so animated.
Please take this next part as it is intended- with a smile. Most hotels and golf/racquet clubs have music playing in the restrooms. There are certain sounds that are rather satisfying to make in a restroom, but entirely unpleasant to hear or to worry about being heard. Background music masks it- thus adding to your comfortable experience.
I use a computerized DJ system that can play background music automatically with playlists that I have defined and I also determine how I want the computer to mix it and how many seconds each song will overlap with the next one. During automated background music, every once in awhile, a song may have a long "fade." The song may be effectively over, as it has faded from the range of hearing, but the computer does not know to start the next song because the file hasn't approached its actual end- it's still fading. As the music falls silent for 6 or 7 seconds before the next file plays, you'll see and hear a few of the animated conversations go into a brief pause, waiting for that next song before they can finish the exciting thing they were talking about because they don't want their voice to be heard above the rest. I usually make a mental note of such a song and edit it during the week to end a bit sooner so that the next song starts at the "effective" end and not the "actual" end for future airings. If a radio DJ ever spoke or played a commercial over the long fading "strike" piano note at the end of the Beatles' A Day in the Life, even though the song is effectively over, I'd have to call up the radio station and threaten a boycott of some sort.
Side note- during the dancing portion, I always mix live because there are several simultaneous queues that I may not want triggered automatically. I may want a lighting effect and a pose or hand gesture along with a dramatic musical element all timed exactly when I want them not when the computer thinks I may want them. I saw rock group "Styx" recently and witnessed a few such "Spinal Tap" moments. It was the second night of the tour and Tommy Shaw stepped up to his spot after the second song and shouted "Hello Friends!" and a computer triggered spotlight illuminated a empty mic stand on the other side of the stage. For my purpose, during most background music applications, such queues are not as crucial.
Another important element of background music is the flavor and the energy level of it. The ceremony portion may have one musical "flavor" and then the cocktail hour may be some traditional music that represents an ethnic heritage, the dinner hour may have yet another flavor. During dinner, does the customer want classic standards mixed with new school- Sinatra/Rod Stewart/Michael Buble? Or perhaps something more contemporary like Jack Johnson/Dave Matthews/Jason Mraz? Latin guitar? Old Jazz mixed with some Classic R&B? Classic rock like Van Morrison/Beatles? Properly selected background music will take the guests from what has been a formal ceremony to what will be a dance party after dinner without the DJ saying something stupid like "Yo people! Get up out ya seats!" The background music will have taken them there and naturally created an energy level conducive to dancing and they will fly out of their chairs and dance.
I like music that is rhythmic but not necessarily a vocal. For many of the reasons already described, a sung lyric may inadvertently disconnect people from that electric conversation as they tune in to the song lyric and tune out of the moment they are having at the table. I also generally avoid "elevator muzak" where all elements of a familiar song are intact but with a saxophone taking what would have been the lead vocal. It's vapid and it can still have the same effect of people tuning in to the music and out of their moments.
At about the time that the last table is served dinner, I begin to switch ever-so-slightly from background to dance music even though I don't really want anybody to dance before the bride and groom officially open the dancefloor with their first dance.
A song like "My Girl" by the Temptations is somewhere in the middle. It's a well known song, rhythmic, has a memorable vocal and it begins to naturally help people wrap up their conversation and disconnect from it and turn their attention to what will be a more communal experience as we celebrate the wedding with 3 generations of people out on the dancefloor dancing to the same song- together. After a couple of songs like that, I'll start to see tapping toes and snapping fingers and I'll see some attention starting to turn to me waiting for some direction on what to do next. At that point, it IS the intention to disconnect from those conversations. The energy that is lost as those conversations come to a close will be replaced with the energy that is contributed to the space by a packed dancefloor. Strangely, this will be the first introduction of the abilities of the DJ even though I will have provided a lot up to this point.

Here's a recent pic of me imparting some sage wisdom to the masses on a couple of cool dance steps. The magic really happens when the crowd and the DJ become one. People are out there dancing and getting into it, hugging each other, singing along with every word and they send that energy to me and I feel it and I dig down a bit deeper and amp it up and send a renewed energy back to them and they feel it and they get down and they send it back to me and I send it back to them... it's a party!

When should I order my wedding cake?

You should order your cake after you have a venue, picked your colors, and most importantly when you’re ready. Being ready doesn’t necessarily mean you know exactly what you want, but at least you’re ready to entertain the idea. We recommend a few different things. Are you set on a certain baker but your wedding is still 9 mouths to a year away? and its in the middle of wedding season then book it. Usually 6-9 mounts is plenty of time but it really depends on your date. However if you got engaged and getting married in 1-3 months it’s still ok to go ahead and call your favorite baker if it’s possible they will do their best to accommodate you.

Can my cake sit outside?

We understand that this is Arizona a beautiful place for a fall wedding, if it is October 3^rd and your thinking the 70’s think again, Last October it was over 85. Many factors fall into place is it in the shade? Can it be brought outside right before? We do not recommend having your cake in the direct sunlight cake? ever, butter melts at 78 degrees. Also think about that before putting it in front of a window.

I have dietary restrictions can I still have a cake?

We understand that today more than ever people are much more aware of food allergies. Just ask for exactly what you can have and tell your baker what you can’t. I’m sure they will come up with the perfect ~egg free, gluten free, nut free, non-dairy, no sugar dessert just for you.

Saving the top tier?

Do people really eat their top cakes after 1 year, of course they do! Are they still good? Yes when packaged correctly they can be quite tasty, Many couples also take them on their honey moon. And I have heard that they eat them on the plane with Champagne, How Romantic!!

What should I bring to my cake tasting?

Color swatches, any pictures of cakes that you have already found that we can incorporate into your cake design. We have several pictures and magazines. It’s great to also include your groom in this step of the wedding planning process. He will be excited to taste the cake.

HOLIDAY GET-TOGETHERS ARE FUN!

• Afford Children a quick list of whom they may expect to meet and how they’re related or why these new people are being included in your Holiday celebration…this will really help!
• Let’s remind our Children to be on their best behavior while a guest in someone else’s home and that speaking up and properly answering with a “Hello, my name is ____”, or “Merry Christmas” or “Thank you” when spoken to, is very important and is very caring behavior
• Let kids know that a ‘cheek pinch’, a ‘head rub’ or a big squeeze is a funny thing that can be a badge of honor with points assigned (count them up and after the celebration, give kudos and talk about how well they handled themselves!)
• Explain that a big part of the Holidays is seeing and spending time with people we like and love and that it’s neat it is to get to know our relatives and friends better. Make it a game among your kids to see who can talk with more people and what they found out about their hobbies, where they live, how many pets they have, etc.
• Teach and role play with youngsters how to properly shake hands with an adult or give a buss on the cheek.
• Use a simple phrase and practice! “My name is Jason, Cousin Bill; it’s nice to meet you!”
• Remind them that when they’re with other kids, they could find out their new friend’s or relatives name and how old they are; that the nice thing to do next is to make introductions to any new arrivals or, to you and Dad, so that you too may enjoy the pleasure of meeting someone new
• If there’s been a death or divorce since last year, remind Children that their favorite Aunt Ruth won’t be in attendance this year and why. This keeps them from either finding out ‘bad news’ in the moment or asking personal questions that may upset
• Teach Children that upon exiting the get together or leaving the table we always say “Thank you for inviting us, we had fun!” or “Dinner was delicious, thank you” or even “I hope to see you next year!”
Remember to remind your Children we don’t touch other’s things; put our feet on other’s furniture, argue with other Children or run in someone else’s home! Do also remind them how to interrupt properly when they need something from you. Q. What is the #1 piece of advice you would give to a bride/groom?
A. Don't bog yourself down with so many details that have to be fussed with that you can't enjoy your own wedding. Hire qualified professionals to take care of all of that for you. It's a once in a lifetime experience and you really need to savor the emotions that you feel that day and think the thoughts that come to you. Feel the love, express your gratitude. HUG! WEEP! LOVE!

Q. What is the biggest mistake people make when picking a DJ?
A. An element that I cover with brides and grooms when meeting to talk about DJ services is to ask about other social occasions or weddings that they have attended and what were some things that the DJ/entertainer did or didn't do that made it really good or really bad? Invariably, it's a horror story about their cousin's wedding who used a friend who works at a night club or has eclectic tastes and has an ipod etc. An Ipod and a couple of speakers does not a DJ make. Cheaper, yes, but they may not have the equipment and training to really shine on such an important day. Night club DJs do brilliant work- IN NIGHT CLUBS! There is so much more that a good DJ can add to a wedding than just the dancing portion. Would you like cheap fast food at your wedding or do you want filet mignon?

Owing to the creative and artistic nature of what a DJ should do, make sure the DJ understands your musical tastes, your vision, the vibe your a looking for at your wedding party. The equipment/technical side is important, but the personality will make or break the event. If the DJ stinks, the guests will leave as soon as the meal is over no matter how great the sound system is.

For wedding and event professionals, this is our world but for a bride and groom hiring some professionals, it's a once in a lifetime occasion and they don't even know what to ask. If meeting with an agency that has several DJs, you may be talking to a salesperson and not the entertainer that will actually be working at your event. It would be a shock to meet him or her on the day of your wedding and decide that you do not like them. If you meet a vendor that you like, hire them. To be booked more than a year in advance is not uncommon. If you wait, you may get who is left over and not who you want.

To those for whom the DJ isn't important, that's fine- the hotel's background music will be acceptable. To those for whom it IS important, don't spend your budget on everything else and then tell a professional entertainer that you'd like to hire that you did not budget for a professional fee. The national average for professional DJ/entertainers is $1500. If the linens are the most important, spend first whatever is required for that and make the rest of the budget fit in around it. If the venue is the most important, spend whatever it takes and then make the rest of the budget fit in around that. If the photography is the most important, then hire the best and adjust the balance of your budget to that. In my 30 years, believe it or not, I have had couples for whom the DJ WAS the most important thing such that they changed the wedding date to a day that I was available and then adjusted the balance of the budget and schedule to fit that.

Q. Do you have a favorite memory from any of your past DJ jobs?
A. I Recently did a "dueling DJs" format event in Los Angeles- alternating 20 minute sets where I had to mix to the other DJ with no electronic connection, just what I heard on his sound system at the opposite end of the hall. Countdown clock on the wall that would reset every 20 minutes. At 19:30 he'd give me a beat and I mix to it and at 20:00, he goes dark and I fire up. At the next 19:30, I give him a beat and he mixes to it and at 20:00, I go dark. He was mixing very well, but didn't have the understanding of music that I do and so he ended up sounding not only choppy, but safe and conservative by playing the obvious hot current songs. I took the crowd on an adventure and because I had gained their confidence, I came off as "edgy". I could play older and more obscure songs and they followed me.

They were hugging, dancing, singing along, getting into it. By the 3rd set, the crowd of 400 would be turning their attention by me by 15:00 (with their backs to him) and he lost his confidence, made a few mistakes, got boooed and wouldn't even take the stage for his final set. All the lighting was dark except for a couple of white spotlights I had set in opposite corners to criss cross each other across my back and shoulders so I would be silhouetted in black- it was very stark and dramatic and at 19:30 he got his beat and the light was shining on me and I was in a rock star stance, pointing his way with a rock and roll finger point with the arm extended straight, shaking my leg like Elvis. He didn't take the stage and I took the beat back at 19:55 to an explosion of applause and cheers. He stayed in the green room until everybody was gone and he packed up his equipment in shame.

Q. What is the most unique request you’ve had for a wedding?
A. For the most part, a single lyric or two is not going to make much difference, but rather the flavor/texture/energy levels of the songs. However, one must put the chosen song into the context that it will be played. A romantic song for the Father/Daughter dance can become uncomfortable in that context. It needs to be a song that is meaningful but can apply to the relationship between a father and his daughter. I regularly get people requesting profane songs or songs that just don't belong at a wedding in any case. Broken love songs, songs of divorce, separation, etc. I may play a song that someone doesn't particularly like, but I never want to offend anyone with it.

People often don't think the song choices through and put them in the context of thier wedding day. I know some songs may have a rather obscure metaphor but if there is any question, go to youtube or google and search for the lyrics and research the song in question.

I had a groom many many years ago (it was very early in my career and I wouldn't let this happen again) who had been put in charge of hiring the DJ and planning the music. He chose the most obnoxious metal song for the first dance in the history of weddings. It was loud, fast, grating, undancable, poorly recorded and entirely inappropriate for a wedding. However, the name of the band was "Bride" so he thought it was really cool- there was no lyric about "Bride" just the band's name. He held his stunned bride's hands and stood across from her and he sang every word at the top of his lungs- he didn't hold her close and I doubt she would have let him. It's a mistake that I haven't duplicated since. To a great degree, it's the DJ that appears to be the idiot in those situations even though I did was I was hired for. If I can't talk some sense in to people these days, I usually pass on the job.

2. Create a Money PlanKnow your bank's travel policies on withdrawls, credit card limits, and bank account balances. Also consider the mix of cash, travelers checks, and credit cards you're taking. Brides and grooms spend at least one year in the spotlight as an engaged couple. There are numerous celebrations in their honor. On the big day, all eyes are on them. This is especially true for the bride, who is the real star of the show. But when couples cut the cake at the end of the reception, they are symbolically cutting their time in the sun. For some people that is tough. If you’re suffering from the post-wedding blues, you can get out of your funk. Here's how:

1. Gain Perspective
Your wedding was fun but it was only one day. Your marriage should last a lifetime. Truly, the day after the wedding is the really exciting day because it’s the beginning of your life together. Now is your chance to show your commitment and love to one another every day, create a family and home, and dream big. Start discussing the next big goal you have as a couple. It could be something as small as saving up for a romantic weekend getaway or as big as purchasing a home. Whatever it is, you’ll choose together, and it will give you something else on which to focus.

2. Get Cozy
For the last few months, you’ve probably done nothing but think about and plan a wedding. While the chores may have been fun, they were still work. Planning a wedding can zap your energy and add to your stress. Now that it’s all over, you probably have regained some precious time. It’s okay if you want to take a rest and do absolutely nothing for a little while. Bask in your newfound laziness. Get in your pajamas, make some popcorn, throw in a DVD, grab a blanket, and snuggle with your spouse on the couch. If your better half leans over for a smooch, all the better!

3. Go Out
Engaged couples have a tendency to neglect their friends and family in the days leading up to the wedding because they have so many things to do. Make it up to your pals and relatives by going out to dinner or the movies with them. If you’re into nature, take a hike. Do things you enjoy and haven’t had the time to do in a while with the people who knew and loved you before you were married. They’ll appreciate your company and lift your spirits.

4. Throw a Party
If the party planner in you craves another feast, then set a date for a get together at your place. It will be on a smaller scale than a wedding, but you’ll still be able to create invitations, place settings, centerpieces, and a menu. You can whip out all the great gifts you received – from that blender to the fine china – and put them to good use. Invite people who you wish could have spent more one-on-one time with you at the wedding, and make it a point to have some fun.

5. Take on a Project
Many a bride and groom have felt nostalgic in the days after the wedding. That’s okay. You can feel free to embrace your nostalgia. Talk about the day, look at pictures, and watch the video. In fact, you could take on a project that would honor your wedding in some way. For instance, you could frame some of your favorite photos and create a collage on your wall, put together a scrapbook, or make a video replete with music and burn it onto a DVD. Such activities keep your mind busy, give you the chance to dwell on the happy memories you created, and leave you with a keepsake that you can turn to whenever you want to put a smile on your face.

Wedding Planning: 10 Most Common Wedding Planning Mistakes

#1 Doing Anything...Before the Guest List
The problem: You're engaged! You're excited! You're ready to send out save-the-dates, book that reception hall, choose those flowers -- now! Well hang on a second, because we're afraid you're forgetting something. Who's coming to this affair, exactly?
The solution: It's not the most fun part of planning (and we'll be honest, it's one of the most likely to lead to a fight or two or twelve), but you shouldn't make any wed-day decisions before you have your wedding guest list somewhat firmly in place. Why, you ask? Well, do you want to have a nonrefundable deposit down on that cozy restaurant room that fits 75 when your mother-in-law's additions bump your list up over 200? Exactly. Once every one's in agreement, then you can move forward. That said, this means that one of the parts of your wedding you can plan immediately (or at least talk over with your fiance) is what kind of atmosphere you'd like for your wedding. Do you want an intimate, close friends and family-only affair, or do you want to throw the event of the season for 300-plus people? Later, when you're in the guest-list trenches, this bit of planning will help back up your gut instinct about whether to say yes (or no) to guest-list additions.

#7 Overloading Your Mom's Big Day To-do List
The problem: So you can't do it all yourself -- fine -- but you've got to have someone you trust double-checking with the caterer and the florist, steaming your veil, or making sure the limo company's got directions. Most brides turn to good ol' Mom (or their sister or their maid of honor) to make sure things go as planned on the big day. These folks are usually happy to help in any way they can -- but hey, didn't they come here to party too?
The solution: No matter how worried you are, most wedding-day (and day-before) chores can be trusted to any competent adult, and aren't there a slew of them coming into town just for your wedding? Before you hand your mom or MOH a mega-task list, consider splitting jobs among a larger group of people -- friends, cousins, aunts. They'll be glad to lend a hand (and likely flattered that you asked), and it's a great way to include more people in your celebration. If you're worried about losing track, simply take the to-do list you already have and note who's who next to each task. Check in with each person at some point, then check off the chore from the list.
Another option: Hire a professional wedding coordinator for the final weeks before the wedding. They're experts at making sure those last-minute details get done, and having the extra hands around will help you (and mom) decide what you really want to be in charge of and what you can happily hand off. It's more affordable than you might think -- and really, can you put a price tag on alleviating that kind of stress?

I think a lot of brides don't realize how affordable a wedding coordinator can be. We offer full service planning and day of coordinating. We call this service "Thee Wedding Fairy". What every girl needs. After meeting with my last couple this last Saturday we will be changing that to what every couple needs. They were amazed at how affordable our pricing was. After going through what they wanted, we created a realistic budget within a hour. Wow.. on the first meeting. Then I went through the budget and showed them how I could actually save them money that would more than cover the wedding coordinator. Of course they were thrilled and we signed up another happy couple. So my tip is... before thinking I have too small of a budget or I can't afford it, call and make an appointment. The consultation is always complimentary.

#9 Blowing Your Budget
The problem: You came up with a number. You did some research. You revised the number. You started planning ... and now that number's not going to cut it. Budgeting for a wedding can be the stuff of nuptial nightmares -- but that doesn't mean you should elope.
The solution: If you find you've underestimated some expenses, don't panic. Instead, sit down with your fiance and try to reach a constructive solution. Maybe you can give up an item or trade one for another (for example, dahlias over Black Magic roses saves about $4 per stem). If you're coming up short overall, you may have to take on some debt. To make it as minimal as possible, consider obtaining a low-interest loan or using a low-interest credit card. And to keep it from becoming a source of tension between the two of you, make a plan to deal with the debt and a deadline for paying it off so it won't hang over your heads.

Calling all bridesmaids – pay attention! Whether you’re a sister, cousin, co-worker, or girlfriend – there is a simple code of ethics to follow when it comes to being a bridesmaid.
*Accept an invitation to be a bridesmaid only if you are excited about being in the wedding. Do not accept out of guilt or because you feel obligated.
*Be available to shop with your bride if she asks. When I was in my friend Amy’s wedding several years ago, we spent an entire summer crashing wedding sites on Saturdays to see what they looked like all set up for an event. We had such a great time, and it made me feel like I had a special part of helping her plan her wedding.
*Let your bride take the lead when shopping for bridesmaid dresses. Talk to her about her vision before grabbing dresses to try on. Yes, we want you to look fabulous, but your bride has an idea in mind regarding the overall look of her wedding. Support her in that vision (see Jenni’s blog on her yellow wedding that never happened).
*Don’t complain to your bride about any of the following:
Your attire
The guy you are assigned to walk with down the aisle (more on the boy ethics below)
How much money you’re spending on her shower/parties/bridesmaid dress/wedding gift
Her family (you know the rule – you can vent about your own mother but no one else can)
How fat you think you are (especially if you smaller than the bride….that is straight up terrible)
Wearing heels (get a pair and practice at home – unless you get lucky and can go barefoot on the beach)
The venue of the wedding or rehearsal dinner
The food at the reception
The groom (even if he’s your brother or BFF)
*Bring a date to the wedding only if you’re in a relationship. Remember – each head at a wedding is costing the bride/groom/family an average of $100. Before you bring a date, ask yourself if you would buy that guy a $100 meal.
*Speaking of boys…if you are single a wedding is a great place to meet someone. That said, do it tastefully and save any overnight adventures for a different evening.
*Offer to help all along the way, and be a sounding board, shoulder to cry on, and fabulous pal for girls’ nights out. If you’re married, you know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t had your own wedding yet, this is very good karma for your future wedding planning.
*You know that song, All You Need is Love? Make that your motto.
I just realized I could go on and on with this stuff, but I’ll leave it at that so as not to scare anyone away from accepting the honor of being a bridesmaid. If you are genuinely excited to be in this wedding, you will likely not have to worry about anything. Just be your naturally wonderful self and have fun celebrating this time in your bride’s life.

"Arizona" Summer Wedding

Maybe there isn't an "average" Arizona summer wedding. One thing that is average is the daytime temperature from about May 15 until November 1. It's hot here! Here includes Phoenix, Scottsdale, Sedona, Apache Junction, Goodyear and most points in between.
Many visitors come to the Valley of Sun from November through April. Big business schedules conventions and training seminars for them. The splendid weather causes scores of visitors to plan their vacations during this "peak" travel season. Golf, hiking, shopping and weddings are wonderful experiences during "peak" travel season. When the visitors come to Phoenix, Scottsdale, Glendale or Tempe, they find our weather good enough to "come back here to get married" when the rates go down. Little do they realize that the pleasant weather they covet is only temporary. Preparing to come down the aisle on a 111 degree August day, many a bride has remarked, "It was so beautiful when we visited here in December!"
The faith of Arizona couples is often amazing, too! Standing in full sun, 109 degrees and a 57 degree dew point temperature, they remark, "we thought we might get a break" on a mid-July afternoon wedding. Flowers and guests begin to wilt at outdoor weddings when the temperature exceeds 90 degrees. It's difficult for a photographer to capture smiles on the guest's faces. Children are crabby and video seemingly melts in the camera . . . well, you get the idea.
A hot weather wedding speeds up the minister. However, it slows down the funky chicken at the reception, if anyone can even muster the energy to dance. Now hear this: the only break in Arizona weather during our hot season is above the 7500' elevation.
Here are some tips for a hot outdoor summer

1. Shade. Find some shade. Make some shade. Get under some trees, rent some lawn umbrellas, or offer the elderly some hand-held umbrellas. Don't face the sun, don't have the officiate face the sun, and don't make your guests face the sun. Direct sun will take the celebration out of anyone.

2. Bring sunscreen. Is this a wedding or a trip to the beach? If you must have a wedding with anyone facing the sun, make sure ample sunscreen and UV400 sunglasses are available. Fair skinned people can burn in a matter of minutes and suffer for days afterward.

3. Avoid strenuous activity. Don't try to do everything the day of the wedding. Set up tables early in the morning or the night before. Get help setting up chairs. (Forget metal chairs period. After ten minutes in the sun they will sear any flesh they come into contact with).

4. Just add water. Provide lots of ice-cold drinking water at one or more locations. Just like having a guest book attendant stop people for signatures, have someone dispensing water. No, not beer, water!

5. Evaporative Coolers. Fans sometimes turn hot air into hot air with friction. Misters on fans are like spraying your guests with a garden hose and are noisy enough to drown-out your Ave Maria. Big rental companies rent authentic portable evaporative coolers. Spend the extra few dollars to provide this source of quiet cool air when the dew point is low enough.

6. Bring a handkerchief. This elegant and often over-looked item is the perfect complement to any hot-weather wedding ensemble. From the breast pocket of a stylish tuxedo or the hand of the beautiful bride, the discrete patting of a handkerchief can be a relief on one's face. Hand fans with the wedding program printed on them are becoming popular.

7. Be Sure. If your antiperspirant doesn't work cutting the lawn in July, it probably won't work at your wedding either. Shop around for an upgrade. Since you will be soaked with perspiration during the ceremony and photos, you might also consider bringing at least a change of underclothing for the reception.

8. Call 9-1-1. If anyone suffers the symptoms of heat exhaustion, don't wait for the coma. Place cold cloths on wrists and the forehead and get medical attention immediately.

9. Plan. Make a detailed schedule of the day and try to follow it. Make sure you have time for everything. Don't add stress and rushing to a hot summer day's schedule. Stay inside with air-conditioning as long as you can and get back inside frequently as your wedding day goes by.

10. Plan B. Your minister, DJ or musicians, florist, parents, bridesmaids, groomsmen, vocalist, and all your guests are praying you have an indoor Plan B. Can you take the wedding inside? If you have planned your wedding in Arizona's hot weather, don't deny it. Nothing can be done about the weather, but you can prepare for it. Be sensitive to your guests and be wise about your plans.

HOW I LOST 26 LBS..

For the past year and a half I had been slowly putting on weight, they say falling in love makes you fat… well that was definitely the case for me. I had soared to become the heaviest ever and I now needed a change. I had recently become engaged when I heard about the contest out at Thee Wedding Warehouse, what better timing? I tried on dresses before I entered into the contest and was mortified. There was no way I was going to walk down the aisle feeling as bad as I did. I decided to enter this contest and to actually follow through with it.
In the past I would start fad diets and then that was it, I would be done, going back to my old ways of eating. Working out had never been a passion of mine and I would start to use excuses for why I had gained as much weight as I had… This is just the way my body is built… I have to learn to love myself the way I am… and my favorite, at least he loves me for me. Okay now let me just say that yes our bodies are built a certain way, and yes we need to love ourselves, and yes it is good that your partner loves you for you, but there is not excuse for being unhealthy. That was the great thing about Thee Wedding Warehouse; they brought in a personal trainer and gave us all the information on how to get our bodies healthy. They gave us the tools and then we were held accountable by weekly results. When the first weeks results came out I was amazed at exactly how well people were doing, I pushed myself harder. I lost 26lbs in 12 weeks, which is an average of 2.16lbs a week by eating more fruits and vegetables, eating protein bars if I was hungry throughout the day and then heating a healthy dinner. My way was to eat very few calories throughout the morning and afternoon and then eat a healthy 500-calorie dinner. I still ate a little pasta and started substituting white rice for brown and buying 45 calorie bread. I always made sure I ate something for breakfast and then ate small snacks throughout the day, like fruits or vegetables. I drink a ton of water and have cut out the soda. The weight just fell off. It is an amazing feeling. I used to always say that buying groceries was a lot more expensive than fast food, oh, how I was wrong. Not only did I lose the weight but I also saved money. After the 12 weeks I went and tried on dresses again. I had gone down 2 dress sizes! I am very excited for the next 12 weeks and look forward to having my dress altered further.
I owe a big thanks to Thee Wedding Warehouse for making me take a look at myself and for giving me the tools to accomplish my goals. In another 12 weeks I plan to be down 52lbs. I will then be ready for my dream wedding!

Wedding Tips

You are getting married and want a beautiful event, yet you need to stick to a tight budget. This is a problem that faces many couples. Don't worry; there are ways to have your dream wedding without breaking the bank.

1. Prioritize! Make a list of the most important things you want for your wedding and have your fiancé do the same. Are you most committed to having gorgeous flowers, inviting 400 people, hosting the wedding at a particular location, or serving filet mignon and lobster? Knowing your priorities before the planning starts will help you decide what to spend money on, and what you don't mind doing cheaply or doing without.

2. Trim the guest list. This is difficult but sometimes necessary if the cost per guest is going to break your budget. Cross off names on the list of guests who might feel obligated to come to the wedding if they are invited, but would not have their feelings hurt if they are not asked to attend. Think of inviting only relatives with whom you have a close relationship instead of everyone related to you. Invite only the people who are important to you and your parents, rather than everyone you know.

3. Reduce the number of people in your bridal party. You have to buy nice gifts for every member of your bridal party, and that adds up. Plus, traditionally, the entire bridal party plus their dates are invited to the rehearsal dinner. Seven bridesmaids and seven groomsmen, all their dates, ring bearer and flower girls, and their families, plus both sets of parents and all the readers in the ceremony, plus Officiant could add up to 40+ people to feed!

4. Have your wedding ceremony and reception held at a hotel, and ask for discounts when family and friends are staying at same hotel. Reserve a block of rooms for your guests several months before the wedding for the best rates. Speak with the appropriate manager when asking for discounts and reserving rooms.

5. Ask your married friends how often they pull out their expensive wedding album... Photos, though a nice luxury can be a huge expense. In reality, you only need one beautiful photo to hang on the wall. If you supply disposable cameras you will be surprised how well the candid pictures turn out. Also, ask a friend who you know is good at ensuring that your guest’s heads aren't cut off in pictures to help. Make a list of all the family and group shots, research wedding magazines for some nice "set up shots" of the bride and groom, and pass them on to your photographer friend. Also ask friends with digital cameras to email you all the photos they take. Ask a friend who you trust having around but couldn't have in the bridal party to capture the bride and groom getting ready. Remember that this is one very happy day when you are both looking your best so it shouldn't be that hard to get a nice album made up without thousands of dollars. You can hire a professional photographer for the ceremony, and leave the rest up to friends.

6. Stick to the schedule for your ceremony and reception. Musicians will charge more if asked to perform beyond the time stated in their contract. You will also incur additional limo charges if your event runs longer than planned. If you don't know any musicians yourself, call local college music departments rather than browsing the yellow pages. Students will be cheaper than professionals.

7. Have your ceremony and reception in the same location to simplify things and save you money. There will be no need for limos to take you to the second location. Many churches have halls that are equipped to handle wedding receptions at reasonable fees - especially if you are a member.

8. Consider having your wedding any day but Saturday. Fridays are also popular wedding days but may cost a lot less than a Saturday event. For even greater savings, choose a weekday evening for your wedding. Schedule the wedding to allow guests time to arrive at the ceremony after the work day has ended. Many guests enjoy weekday weddings as this frees up their weekends for other activities. Choose a date between June and September for the Phoenix area to avoid higher peak season rates. Schedule your wedding during the day, such as a weekend brunch or a luncheon on Saturday or Sunday. The cost for the venue will be much lower and the daytime lighting is better for color photography.

9. After looking at the final plan of your wedding, but before paying any deposits, decide where you can simplify the whole process. Consider whether you really need choral singers and a string quartet at the ceremony and a wedding singer and a DJ at the reception. Releasing doves or butterflies or having a candle-lighting ceremony are all wonderful, but may end-up costing a lot of money. Simplicity saves money and if done well, your wedding may seem more serene and awe-inspiring!

10. Remember that the wedding is one day at the start of a life-long commitment. Look beyond the wedding day to the goals you will have as newlyweds. If you want to purchase a house in the next few years, keeping that as a priority throughout the wedding planning process will help you to be prudent about how much you spend on that one day.

MORE ON THANK YOU'S....

A hand written note is always nice but in the digital age sending an email to let your vendors know it always appreciated. This is me speaking as a vendor. As a vendor I love to get pictures also....

I think as for the bride and groom a hand written note is still the most proper. Martha Stewart's says you have 6 months to send thank you notes after the wedding to your guests. My opinion is closer to 3 months. To stay caught up, do them as you receive them before the wedding. Keep a good list. Schedule a couple hours of quiet time time to write them. Have the new hubby help and enjoy doing it together. This will also make it go much quicker.

They're such a simple concept. A thank you note is an expression of appreciation for a thoughtful act, expression, or gift. But the potential formality of this thought can be intimidating. Many people think that the wording has to be perfect, and this causes so much anxiety that the notes are never sent. Before all the other rules, just remember that an imperfect note that comes with heartfelt sentiment is better than a perfect note that was never written.
In order to relieve some of the anxiety on this subject, here is a simple guide to the do's and don'ts of thank you notes. You may discover that in some cases where you thought a written note was required, it's not. I'll also give you a few sample thank you notes just to get you started. But remember, although I'm providing a formula, you'll need to personalize it to make it meaningful to the recipient.

The Do's of Thank You Notes
Send your thank you notes as quickly as possible.
Notes may be sent on informal stationery, except for wedding thank you notes which are generally sent on formal stationery.
Always make specific reference to the gift that is the subject of the note, such as "Thank you so much for the blue sweater. How did you know that was my favorite color?"
Always send notes in the following situations:
Wedding gifts.
For sympathy letters, flowers, or mass cards.
To the hostess after a party that was hosted in your honor.
For bridal or baby shower gifts.
For gifts that were received by mail.
After being entertained by your boss.
Gifts received during a hospital stay.
After being hosted as a houseguest for one or more nights (unless it's a close relative or friend who is doing the hosting).
For notes or gifts of congratulations.
Thank you notes are not required in the following situations, but would still be a nice gesture:
After being a guest at a dinner party.
After a job interview (not required, but definitely a smart idea).
For birthday gifts that were received and opened in person, and you already thanked the giver personally.
When a friend has helped you out with a special favor such as babysitting, a meal when you were sick, running errands for you when you are incapable.
To the sales representative who has entertained you personally as part of a business relationship.

The Don'ts of Thank You Notes
Don't delay in sending most notes. Generally notes should be sent within a week of receipt of the gift or gesture. The only exception to this timing is as follows:
Thank you notes for hospital gifts should be sent as soon as the patient is well enough to send them, whenever that is.
The current guidelines for wedding gift thank you notes are that the notes should be sent within three months of receipt of gifts. However, given the potential monumental task that would pose to the bride and groom after their honeymoon, it makes sense to send notes out as soon as gifts are received (often wedding gifts are sent prior to the wedding date).
I cannot stress enough the importance of personalizing thank you notes. I have attended large children's parties where parents hand out pre-written thank you's as guests leave the party, even though gifts haven't even been opened. In my opinion, there's no point in even giving a thank you in this case. Thought was given to selecting just the right present for the birthday boy or girl, and without a specific thank you for the gift, the giver will never know how much the gift was really enjoyed. This kind of thank you is merely a check note on the party list, and conveys no sense of personal appreciation.
Even though most thank you notes can be sent on informal stationery, that doesn't mean it's okay to use a piece of paper torn from your shopping list pad. Find note cards that reflect your personality, and keep a ready supply on hand. They don't need to cost a lot of money. In fact, if you shop diligently, you can find inexpensive, attractive cards in the dollar stores.
There's no need to lie if you dislike a gift. If something is not to your taste, you should still show appreciation for the thought that went into selecting it for you. You can always say "Thank you for the thoughtful (fill in the blank). I will always think of you whenever I use it."

Hiring a DJ... by Curits Whipple

During a bridal consultation to consider hiring a DJ for her wedding, a bride asked if I had a strategy if people weren't dancing. It's a great question and really serves to separate out a professional DJ/entertainer from a hobbyist. If a DJ has arrived at a place where people aren't dancing, the time to have not had that happen has already passed. An inexpensive hobbyist DJ would be left only with a cheesy and uncomfortable tactic like the "Hokey Pokey" or a stupid announcement like "Yo people get up out ya seats!"

The time to plan to have dancing guests is in advance of the event. It comes from time spent talking to the bride and groom about their musical tastes and the vision they have for their wedding celebration. It happens during the dinner hour, chatting with wedding guests as time allows. It's the DJ reading the crowd properly. Well selected and executed background music should have naturally elevated the mood of the room from a formal ceremony to what will be a dance party after dinner. It comes from creating a confidence level in the abilities of the DJ, even before the first dance song is played. Then a professional entertainer can lead the way and take the wedding guests on a fun musical and dancing and celebrating journey and finish the night breathless and satisfied and with fantastic memories of the night.

Don't Believe Everything You Read on How to Save $$$

Recently we read on a national website (The Knot) that a good way to save money is to "send a trusted friend to the nearest market to buy your wedding flowers". Here is what I (Jacque) have to say about that... "Ya Right" Do you really want your "friend" to make your flower so that when you walk down the aisle your flowers are falling out of your bouquet? Or your boutonnieres are hanging off the lapels? Now if your "friend" is a florist that is a different story. And wait... isn't your trusted friend walking down the aisle with you? Really girls lets think about this... there is a reason there have florists for approx. 200 years. Being a floral designer is more than just throwing flowers together. It comes with years of experience that a good florist knows how to take your dreams and turn them into beautiful arrangement on the table and in your hands.

So here is my tip... talk to your florist, tell them what your budget is and let a professional help you. This is the biggest day of your life and do you really want a grocery store tag stuck on the bottom of your bouquet or centerpieces?

The best way to change the look of a tea length gown is to add a petticoat - pictures enclosed : ) This is the same exact tea length gown, but they look drastically different. The petticoat can be worn for the ceremony to dress up the formal pictures, but when you get to the ceremony you can take out the petticoat to enjoy the night : )

Just a few short tips on Special Dances..

We just did a wedding and after the grand entrance they did the 1st dance... loved it. Seemed to make the grand entrance last longer. During the grand entrance the wedding party each had a special song so the DJ would play 30 seconds of each then they took a seat. The guests were entertained and it lasted for about 3 to 5 minutes. After the 1st dance they sat for dinner.

If you have several special dances (father/daughter, mother/son... etc) have the DJ play clips of the songs so that each dance isn't quite so long. Everyone loves to watch but after 3 or so songs it gets to be a little long.

Thank you so much for everything. That contest was so motivating, especially to see our results on the screen. No one wants everyone to know they had a setback at the end of the week, so it really pushes you. I hope I can continue, even though there is no weekly weigh in and the anticipation of every one's progress. I also wanted to tell you how generous you guys are. That was really nice and selfless surprise to give everyone a gift. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate everything.

As I started the Biggest Loser weight loss competition through Thee Wedding Warehouse, I remember telling myself it cannot be that hard. I decided my goal weight, the amount I needed to loose to reach it, and how many pounds it averaged out to be each week. My goal sounded attainable and I set my mind to winning the competition. This was the easy part.
By no means is loosing weight easy. It is a steady battle with your mind and body. In a world where our lives are constantly revolving around food, this competition was never “easy”. I had to completely change my life in terms of the food I ate and the amount of exercise I participated in each day.
At the beginning of the contest, I followed the Weight Watchers system of counting points. I focused on eating more fruits and vegetables and cut out foods high in sugar and fat. I also drink at least 84 ounces of water a day, staying away from soda and sugared drinks. This method worked great and I lost many pounds.
About half way through the contest, I decided to start counting calories. Being a huge fan of the show “The Biggest Loser”, I decided to listen to Jillian’s saying of “calories in – calories out”. I never realized to loose one pound in a week you have to burn 3500 calories. I kept a food journal in which I tracked everything I ate during the day. I also recorded the amount of calories I burned working out at the gym. If I can recommend anything to anyone, it would be to keep track of what you are eating each day. This really held me accountable and I was able to look back at everything I recorded.
During this contest my biggest support system was my family. They kept me grounded when I was ready to fly to the delicious box of Tagalongs that were calling my name. It is very difficult to make a decision not to eat out for three months! There were numerous times I was ready to give up, frustrated from a low number week or just tired of “dieting”. The prizes that were given away during the contest were also a huge motivator. We all know weddings are expensive. This was my chance to help lower some of the costs. Each week I got frustrated I just kept imagining the reward I would receive at the end if I won. This kept me going!
Aside from the prizes given away at the end of the contest, one thing that is priceless is the way you feel after reaching your goal weight. I feel amazing. I have clothes in my closet that I haven’t been able to wear for years and they now fit. When I look in the mirror, I feel confident and comfortable with my new body. The girls in this contest have all done an amazing job. We all took the first step in loosing weight and have stayed committed for months. Everyone looks amazing and I am very proud of all of the girls who joined this contest. We all have done a great job.

New addition to Royal Sun Productions.... meet Alex. So cute! I just got this picture so I thought I would share with everyone. Royal Sun Productions does excellent videography. They just completed a store video for us that we will be adding to our website so watch for upcoming changes. I love pictures but video.... it takes you back. You can hear the emotions...when you are old and forgetful, it is worth every penny. It's also good for friends and family who couldn't make it to the big day. Kids also really like to watch their parents get married. Jacque always laughs and says when her and her husband have an argument she leaves it running on the TV... I got this really cute picture from Lanette Romero of The Cake Contessa. I had a customer in last Saturday who was looking for cup cakes but still wanted a little cake to cut. I went on to explain this very idea to her. She loved it. The cup cakes can be decorated to match the theme and color of the event. Monograms can be added. Possibilities are endless.

Sand Ceremony

WE LOVE "thanks yous" and pictures. Marisa Maggio-Harelson (some of you might have seen her at bridal shows, she works for Arizona Weddings Magazine and Website) just sent this to me. She and her husband celebrated their anniversary... They decided to renew their vows. She came in and got the vases and sand in the store and then we got everything engraved. She also wanted a candle with their wedding saying that was on her wedding invitations engraved onto a glass cylinder that she put a candle in. The original plans was to do all this in November but life sometimes happens and they ended up waiting and then doing it on the beach in Cabo.

I love the heart shaped vase because it has a lid.. but you can use any kind of vase. Everyone always asks and the answer is you do not have to use the wedding colors. I actually suggest using something that will look good in your home.

All questions about the actual ceremony can be answered by most officiants. Every sand ceremony is a little different. Reverend Giovanni always helps answer any questions we have on this topic... if you need questions answered call him 623.910.6214.

Cart Wheels...??? Katie Piper is so cute. Look at her go. I think this the first time I have every seen someone do a cartwheel in a wedding dress. I started with this picture because I couldn't resist but the following are the of the beautiful flowers that we (Jacque) did.

The cake was absolutely beautiful. Jacque also perfectly placed all the black magic roses on the cake to show off the beautiful cake jewels ( from our store).

This party looks like fun... and guess who is in the house? Mr. Curtis Whipple DJ extraordinaire. This picture gives a new meaning to the word MC or full service DJ.

Dinner with All About Catering Co.

All About Catering Co. had their tasting at our store last night. We had about 20 wonderful people over for dinner. The food was amazing... we like to host these events because it gives Jacque and I both a chance to visit with our customers. The store is closed and we just get to relax. Planning can be stressful and it is nice to just take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy good company.

Let Us Educate You Before You Hire Entertainment

Ray Martinez from Ray Mar Productions... offers this friendly advice before choosing your wedding entertainment.

Your wedding day, what a special and happy day this should be. No expense should be spared to make it one you will remember fondly with each successive anniversary. If corners must be cut however, entertainment is not the area to compromise.
THE LIFE OF THE PARTY: Music and the performance of a professional Master of Ceremonies is the driving force and the life of the party, and it is very crucial and helpful to know what to expect from your DJ/Entertainer, and to be able to provide the services you desire.
PLAN WELL AHEAD: If at all possible start looking at least a year or more in advance of your event. The most popular DJ/Entertainers schedule their event bookings far in advance with the months of May through October, and December booking the earliest.
SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION: Ask the DJ/Entertainer about meeting with him or her at the office or your home, or better yet at the event venue to get a feeling of where they will set up. If consultations cannot be arranged, ask for brochures or website pricing information, referrals, and venues they have performed. A DVD might also be available but because of the lower sound quality, due to editing, they are often not an adequate measure by which to judge.
THE IMPORTANCE OF MUSIC REPERTOIRE: Check the library of music of the particular company. The better companies will have a wider selection of music to serve all ages, ranging from kids to grandparents. Music should be kept at a level comfortable to speak over dinner, and do not hesitate to ask the DJ/Entertainer to drop the level a few decibels.
INFORMATION SHEET: This information sheet/questionnaire is a great opportunity to make any specific requests to the DJ/Entertainer, such as your first dance song, father daughter dance, the names of the wedding party, parents and grandparents to be introduced, as well as agreed upon timing for the grand entrance, toast, cake cutting, and money dance. In order for the DJ/Entertainer to utilize your completed information sheet, it should be returned at least three weeks prior to the event. Don’t forget to put the DJ/Entertainer in touch with the banquet manager to begin important communication to insure the smoothness of your event.
CEREMONY/RECEPTION LOCATION: If the ceremony and reception are at different locations, make sure someone is at the venue to let the DJ/Entertainer in before the party begins. Also regarding separate locations, consult with your DJ/Entertainer if a second system might be available for rental at the second venue for ceremonies. Many venues do not provide this service. If the reception is at the same place as the cocktail hour, it is advisable to hire a DJ/Entertainer to play music during the cocktail hour, or ask him to set up early.
THE BOTTOM LINE: Price is contingent on the popularity of the DJ/Entertainer, traveling required and duration of the party. Three hours is standard and usually the minimum with anything above that, it is considered overtime. In Southern California, the average price range for a full time qualified professional DJ/Entertainer is about $1,400.00 -$2,500.00. Overtime is anywhere from $250.00-350.00 per hour. Weekend or part time DJs will run you about $600.00 - $700.00. If they are charging such a low price you may start asking yourself as to what experience they have and what they offer in comparison to the qualified pros. Upon agreeing on the booking arrangements, you should sign a written booking agreement and return it with an initial payment, usually about 50%, unless otherwise stipulated. Make sure you know what services are to be performed as agreed between you and the DJ/Entertainer. Most entertainment companies will have an additional charge for wedding ceremony and/or cocktail hour to be included, as well as venues that have a flight of stairs and no elevator. It is also an industry standard to include a 15% gratuity. The hallmark of these professionals usually include a custom console, multi-channel mixing board, a matching pair of CD players, or digital computerized system, headset, power amp, two professional speaker enclosures (powered or non-powered) and a music library in road worth cases. For many DJ’s the use of a wireless microphone is a must for remote toasts, organizing and emceeing key events as well as participation dances.
HAVE A GREAT TIME: On your special day, now is the time to enjoy yourself. It is in your best interest to trust all the professionals you have hired. Your DJ/Entertainer is there to coordinate between all vendor services, both in person and on the microphone. We hope this information has been helpful to you. It has been compiled to help educate you so that you may have the wedding you have always dreamed of.

TIPS ON HIRING A VIDEOGRAPHER....

1. View samples of completed wedding DVD's. Notice the picture quality - is it shaky or unclear? Professional videographers use high quality cameras, tripods, lighting and sound equipment.
2. Ask how many cameras are used in filming. One camera will provide only one angle the entire time. This will end up looking "amateurish". Two cameras are very good - the industry standard. Three cameras are even better and will provide simultaneous coverage of the bride,
groom, and the wide angle from the back of the ceremony. This set up is truly lovely and well worth the extra money if available.
3. Verify what is included in the total package price. Good videographers will attach high quality microphones to the groom and officiant (if allowed) during the ceremony. Full editing of the raw film footage should be included as well. Video editing is the work that happens in the studio after
the wedding is over. Any substandard shots, lighting, or sound issues are corrected. And all camera angles are seamlessly compiled to create a beautiful viewing experience. Full editing is crucial to the final look and flow of the video.
4. Know how many hours of filming are included on the wedding day. The ceremony should be fully covered with choices of reception coverage options.
5. Be aware of the filming and editing styles of videographers you interview. How do you want your wedding day captured? Does the videographer believe in a natural unobtrusive style of filming? Or is their style more commanding and loud - like a "Hollywood" movie director? If you
desire your day to be completely captured from beginning to end, make sure the videographer isn't going to cut most scenes out during the editing process. Many videographers produce a DVD full of "wedding day highlight scenes" set to music and then call it a day! Your wedding
video should be a complete record of your special day. If the footage captured is overly manufactured and changed, you will not feel like you are there again every time you watch it. Filming and editing style is very important.
6. Get all details of the package in writing. This is usually called a service agreement or contract. If you feel anything is missing or incomplete, ask for an amended copy until you are satisfied.
7. Listen to your instincts when meeting and talking on the phone or in person. A professional should listen fully to your desires, take time to answer all your questions, and communicate that they understand your wishes and are able to deliver. If you don't have a good feeling,

Lost Love Ones

HI Everyone! I need to write about something that has been brought to my attention several times in the last few weeks...How to memorialize someone who has passed at your wedding. It is a sad subject but I feel it needs some attention.So,... here's how I feel.

First and foremost, DO NOT leave and empty chair for them !!! This is just an open invitation for tears on your special day. This is a special day for all of your family and it should be a happy day! I am not trying to say that the lost ones are less important but if you leave a chair for them all it does is leave everyone with the feeling that some one important is missing. I mean think about it, you are walking down the aisle and there is a place where a dear friend or family member is NOT sitting! I don't know about you but it makes me sad even thinking about it! I have been telling my clients to come up with other things to include a lost loved one. One way is to put pictures of them at the guest book table. A picture of them smiling and laughing or one at Halloween in a funny costume. If they were in our armed forces ( as so many have been) show your pride with a photo in Uniform. Pictures of when they were little and ones of them with the Bride and Groom or Mom and Dad! That way people will look at the pictures and smile feeling happy as they walk into your big day! Another good idea is to put lots of votive candles out(enough for each couple attending) don't forget the matches on this table, leave a note with the pictures and ask each couple to light a candle for your loved one! This is not only a happy way to say we miss you but it also serves as a beautiful decoration at your reception !! Also you could place a special floral arrangement of their favorite flowers with a picture of them laughing... See, theirs so much you can do and make everyone happy! I hope I have shed some light on a very sad and sometimes heated situation. I am here if any one has questions or wants some other ideas for remembering lost loved ones.

Be sure to take advantage of, or request, an engagement portrait session with your photographer. Not only can it improve your wedding pictures, but you’ll probably have a great time! How can the engagement session improve your wedding photos weeks ahead? If you think about it, your photographer is very comfortable behind the camera; and the average person is not comfortable in front of the camera.

Try to get to know your photographer. Have fun. Be yourself. Go crazy. Let’s face it: those images of brides that you see in magazines do not happen all by themselves. There is a lot of planning and rehearsal that goes into them. And that one photo that you see was probably chosen from hundreds of photos.
So spend more time with your photographer. You’ll see on your wedding day that you feel more comfortable and have more confidence that he or she will capture those special moments that you’ve spent months, even years, thinking about.

Thoughts about hiring a DJ

Here's a few tips for hiring a DJ:

Hire a trained/experienced professional DJ/entertainer. A cool cousin that has an Ipod and some ecclectic tastes in music or your friend who DJs at a club may not be in a position to properly handle the ceremony music, the dinner music, the announcements, wedding traditions and the musical tastes of perhaps 3 generations of people attending the event. By the time you rent the needed speakers and equipment to plug in the Ipod and provide a microphone for the toast, most of the intended savings will be spent.

In addition to the several specific songs such as Bride and Groom first dance, coming down the aisle, the father/daughter dance etc, also provide about 20 songs that indicate your tastes- songs that can be mixed in during the course of the evening as the mood presents itself. No more than about 20- leave some room for your guests to request a song or two and for the DJ to use his or her professional judgement. Provide a DO NOT play list as well.

If hiring a DJ from an entertainment agency, insist on meeting with the DJ that will actually be working at your event.

Is your entertainer insured? Many venues no longer allow vendors who don't carry liability insurance.

Are there contingency plans for equipment failures? A back up soundsystem back at the shop will not be of much value if it takes an hour to get there and another hour to get back to the event.

Use a contract. It should spell out who, what, when, where, and how much.

How much time is required for set up and break down and is that part of the contracted time? A venue may have an event before or after yours and the DJ may be required to load in and out more quickly than is possible for his or her sound and/or lighting rig.

How will they be dressed? Hotels and Golf Clubs tell stories regularly of hobbyist DJs attempting to perform at a formal function in shorts, tanktops and baseball caps worn sideways. ???!??!!

Does your entertainer belong to any professional organization or network? This does not guarantee satisfactory performance but usually is an indicator that they are willing to learn and grow and attend training and other industry functions.

Toilet Paper??

We just got the new Wedding Star book and on page 327, I notice toilet paper. This is what it says:

This novelty toilet paper roll with comical bride and groom is sure to bring a smile. Here is an easy way to add a little fun. Your guests will be amused and amazed with your attention to every detail when they discover... even the toilet paper has a wedding theme? 350 sheets, 2 ply $9.98

Then I just had to laugh. Toilet paper??? Yeah I think no but that's just me and what do I know anyway.

This did however get me thinking about budgets. I think over 95% of brides and grooms don't put enough thought into the budget and budget process. Unless you have done it before 9 times out of 10 you are unsure how to set a budget because you are unsure what things cost. I encourage everyone seek help, look online, buy a good planner. Make a list. Everyone has that one or two things that is very important to them. For one it might be the cake so they allot more of percentage and go with the cake of their dreams. Some its the dress. Or the flowers. Repeat make a list. Make a list of everything that you want then number them on what is most important. If your decorations are the most important upgrade your flowers and your linens and then serve chicken instead of filet mignon. Try trimming unneeded items like pretty toilet paper that may be cute but you could spend that money else where and get more bang for your buck. Pick an awesome photographer but maybe don't order the books right away. I could go on and on so if you need help or ideas come in or call.
